1. Google Cloud Headquarters in Kuwait
(July 1–10, 2024)
Google Cloud officially opened its new offices in Kuwait. Omar Al-Omar, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of State for Communications Affairs, hailed the event as “a major step towards a prosperous digital future for Kuwait.” He emphasized the vital role of cloud computing, digital transformation, and AI in economic growth and national development.
2. Participation in the Google Cloud Government Conference
(October 2–20, 2024)
Kuwait participated in the Google Cloud Government Conference in Washington, D.C. Minister Al-Omar reiterated Kuwait’s dedication to adopting cutting-edge digital strategies for improving government performance. During the visit, he met with Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian and top executives to discuss collaboration and the importance of empowering Kuwaiti youth with digital skills.
3. Strategic Talks with Google Cloud Leadership
(November 3–13, 2024)
Minister Al-Omar hosted Anthony Ciro, VP of Google Cloud for Southern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, to explore opportunities in strengthening Kuwait’s communications infrastructure. 4. Launch of the Government Data Exchange Platform
(November 4–25, 2024)
Kuwait advanced its digital governance by developing a national data exchange platform to enable seamless data sharing between ministries and reduce paper-based processes. The Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT) initiated integration efforts and informed all ministries about the operational requirements.
5. Establishment of Microsoft Kuwait
(Early January 2025)
The Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) approved the establishment of Microsoft Kuwait, a new entity backed by Microsoft Corporation with a capital of one million Kuwaiti dinars. The company will focus on:
- Computer programming
- Data preparation and web hosting
- IT consulting and facility management
- Technical and computer services
6. Strategic Partnership with Microsoft
(March 6, 2025)
Kuwait, represented by CAIT and CITRA, signed a strategic partnership with Microsoft to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen its position as a regional AI hub. This agreement supports Kuwait’s long-term vision of becoming a tech-driven economy.
7. Launch of the Digital Crisis Response Center
(Early April 2025)
Kuwait initiated the implementation of a Digital Crisis Response Center to safeguard government data and ensure continuity during system disruptions. Government agencies were instructed to appoint liaison officers, and CAIT confirmed the completion of cloud transformation efforts under the framework agreement with Google Cloud.
