Kuwait City: Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has announced a major exploratory milestone with the discovery of the Jazza Offshore Natural Gas Field, marking the highest production rate ever recorded from a vertical well in Kuwait’s history.

The discovery, located in Kuwait’s offshore region, is part of KOC’s continued efforts to expand and develop the nation’s hydrocarbon resources. It follows a series of successful offshore discoveries — including the Al Nokhda field in July 2024 and the Al Jalaiah field in January 2025 — underscoring the company’s growing achievements in offshore exploration.

Initial tests from the Jazza-1 well revealed exceptional production levels, exceeding 29 million cubic feet per day of natural gas and more than 5,000 barrels per day of condensates. The reservoir features a low carbon dioxide content, is free of hydrogen sulfide, and contains no associated water, making it both an environmentally and technically rare find.

The initial estimated area of the field covers approximately 40 square kilometers, with potential reserves of around 1 trillion cubic feet of gas and over 120 million barrels of condensate — equivalent to nearly 350 million barrels of oil equivalent. KOC emphasized that these figures are preliminary and may increase as further exploration activities continue in surrounding reservoirs.

Minister of Oil and Chairman of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) Board, Tariq Al-Roumi, hailed the discovery as a strategic step toward realizing the KPC and KOC 2040 Vision. “This achievement enhances national energy security and strengthens production capacity. Work is underway to accelerate development of the offshore fields and integrate them into the production system to support economic growth and create new job opportunities for Kuwaiti talent,” he said.

KPC CEO Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah expressed pride in the accomplishment, highlighting the role of national expertise: “These discoveries reflect the exceptional competence of our national cadres who continue to break new ground in the oil and gas sector. They also reaffirm the high quality of Kuwaiti oil, distinguished by its low emissions — a testament to our long-term vision for a sustainable and secure energy future.”

KOC Chairman Ahmad Al-Aidan also commended the dedication and professionalism of the company’s employees. “These achievements embody our values of excellence, innovation, and teamwork. Kuwait Oil Company remains committed to advancing exploration and maintaining leadership in the energy sector,” he said.

The Jazza Offshore Field stands as a landmark in Kuwait’s oil and gas exploration history, reinforcing the country’s position as a key player in the global energy landscape.
