Kuwait: 10 Tons of Spoiled Shrimp and Fish Seized, Destroyed by Food Authority

July 19, Kuwait City – In a decisive move to safeguard public health, the General Authority for Food and Nutrition has seized and destroyed 10 tons of shrimp and fish deemed unfit for human consumption, preventing the contaminated goods from reaching the fish market.

Ali Al-Kandari, Director of the Capital Governorate Inspection Department, told KUNA that the seizure followed a surprise inspection of fish transport vehicles. The inspection resulted in the confiscation of four refrigerated trucks carrying spoiled seafood, which were intercepted before any portion of the shipment could be distributed or sold.

“The entire quantity was immediately destroyed, and legal procedures were taken to prohibit its circulation and issue the necessary violations,” Al-Kandari confirmed. “Our priority is the health and safety of both citizens and residents.”.Stay updated on Kuwait’s latest news and job openings by following our WhatsApp channel!https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaCkXo25q08jnKrRwo27

The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution Office for legal action against those responsible.

Al-Kandari emphasized the Authority’s zero-tolerance policy toward food fraud and expired products, reaffirming its commitment to enforcing the law rigorously. He credited the ongoing inspection campaigns to the directives of the Chairman of the Board, the Director General, and the Deputy Director for Inspection and Control Affairs.

“Our inspectors are actively conducting field tours across all six governorates,” he said. “These proactive efforts are aimed at detecting and removing spoiled food from stores before it reaches the consumer.”

The campaigns are part of a broader initiative in line with Cabinet directives, aimed at ensuring food safety, securing proper storage and transport conditions, and maintaining round-the-clock monitoring of food expiration dates.

The Authority reiterated its commitment to continuing inspections and urged consumers to report any suspected violations, reinforcing a shared responsibility in upholding food safety across Kuwait.
