Kuwait: 16,000 Travel Bans Issued in First Two Months of 2024

Kuwait City, Kuwait: Data from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Justice’s Travel Ban Section, as reported by Al-Qabas newspaper. It indicates a notable rise in travel restrictions imposed on both citizens and expatriates during the first two months of 2024.

The report reveals that nearly 16,000 travel bans were issued between January and February. February experiencing a higher number of restrictions (9,006) compared to January (6,642). Geographically, Al-Ahmadi Governorate reported the most significant number of bans (4,321), followed by Farwaniya and Hawalli.

While over 8,000 travel bans were lifted during the same period, the data suggests a potential increase in unresolved financial obligations or legal matters. The report cites unpaid rent, utility bills, telecommunication charges, and court-related expenses as common reasons for the travel restrictions.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Justice data highlights a significant number of travel ban orders. Mainly connected to rental agreements (over 27,000) and vehicle seizures handled by the Family Court. These findings may warrant further investigation into potential trends or economic factors contributing to the rise in travel bans.
