The Ministry of Health in Kuwait has officially launched its annual seasonal winter vaccination campaign for the tenth consecutive year. Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, the Ministry’s spokesperson, emphasized that protecting the population from seasonal illnesses and microbes during the winter months remains a top priority for the country’s health system.

Dr. Al-Sanad explained that winter microbes, including influenza and pneumococcal bacteria, are typically active from mid-September through May, peaking between October and March. These illnesses can cause severe complications, especially for children, the elderly, pregnant women, individuals with chronic conditions, and those with weakened immune systems.

This year, the Ministry is offering the updated influenza vaccine along with an enhanced pneumococcal vaccine that protects against 20 types of bacteria, including those responsible for pneumonia and meningitis. Over the past seasons, more than 2.5 million vaccine doses were administered—a record that underscores the Ministry’s dedication to public health.

Vaccinations are available across more than 75 locations in all governorates, including preventive health departments in primary healthcare centers and public hospitals. Fifteen new sites have been added this year to improve accessibility and ensure wider coverage.

Dr. Al-Sanad urged all citizens and residents, especially those most vulnerable, to take advantage of the free vaccination services. He highlighted that vaccination is the first line of defense in safeguarding individual and public health, reflecting a national commitment to preserving the country’s most valuable resource: its people.
