Kuwait City:The Ministry of Interior announced that three civilian employees working at land ports have been arrested for tampering with the Ministry’s computer system used to record the entry and exit of travelers.
According to the Ministry, the arrests were made as part of the Criminal Security Sector’s ongoing efforts to combat forgery, corruption, and abuse of public office. The General Department of Criminal Investigations, represented by the Land Ports Investigations Department, led the operation.
Authorities explained that the case began when information was received about two employees — one working in the Passports Department at the Nuwaiseeb border crossing and the other at the Salmi border crossing — who had allegedly abused their official powers by entering false data into the Ministry’s system. The falsified records included fabricated entry and exit details for two female citizens, despite their actual departure from Kuwait months earlier.
A coordination effort with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor revealed that the two women had been unlawfully receiving financial assistance even though they were no longer residing in the country. Further cross-checking with Saudi authorities confirmed that the recorded data in Kuwait’s system was inaccurate, proving that the fraud had indeed occurred.
Legal authorization was then obtained, and the first two employees were arrested at their workplaces. During questioning, both admitted to the charges and implicated a third employee from the Passports Department at Salmi Port, who was also subsequently arrested.
The Ministry confirmed that all three defendants have been referred to the competent authorities for further legal action.
In its statement, the Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its firm stance that no one is above the law and that any employee found guilty of abusing their position or tampering with official systems will face strict legal consequences. It also stressed its continued commitment to protecting the integrity of state institutions and maintaining public trust.
