Kuwait City, October 23, 2025 – The Ministry of Interior has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward reckless driving and repeated traffic violations. In a new circular, the General Traffic Department announced strict enforcement measures and deterrent penalties for motorists who violate key traffic regulations.

Under the new directive, vehicles will be impounded for two full months (60 days) for any driver found guilty of committing the following serious violations:

  • Violating overtaking rules
  • Deliberately obstructing traffic on public roads
  • Blocking roadways intentionally
  • Parking in designated “No Parking” areas

According to informed sources speaking to Al-Rai, the decision follows the directives of the Ministry of Interior’s senior leadership, emphasizing fair and firm implementation of the law without any exceptions. Traffic departments have been instructed not to release any impounded vehicle before the completion of the 60-day period, ensuring strict compliance and consistency across all regions.

Officials noted a sharp rise in reckless driving and random parking incidents, prompting the Ministry to take decisive action. Within just one week, more than 4,500 traffic violations were recorded through patrols and new-generation surveillance cameras that monitor key roads, intersections, and vital areas, including hospitals.

On a single day—Monday last week—traffic authorities reported 823 violations related to overtaking and obstructing traffic. Offenders were immediately notified through the “Sahl” app, as part of Kuwait’s ongoing digital enforcement initiative.

Authorities stressed that public roads must not become places of chaos or negligence, underscoring that even minor violations can now be referred to court under the amended Traffic Law. For expatriate drivers, repeated serious offenses—such as reckless overtaking or obstructing traffic—could result in immediate deportation.

Furthermore, all traffic violations related to these serious offenses will be blocked in the system, preventing violators from paying fines until their vehicles have completed the 60-day impoundment. In severe cases, the law also allows precautionary detention of the driver for up to 48 hours and referral to court for further legal action.

This strict enforcement policy reflects the Ministry of Interior’s ongoing commitment to maintaining public safety, enhancing road discipline, and deterring dangerous behavior that endangers lives.
