Kuwait and China Strengthen Maritime Ties with New Cooperation Agreement

In a significant step towards deepening bilateral relations, Kuwait and China have signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement focusing on ports and commercial maritime navigation. This strategic move aims to enhance collaboration in the maritime sector and boost economic connectivity between the two nations.

The agreement was formalized during a high-level meeting held at the Sabah Al-Ahmad Coast Guard Base. Brigadier General Sheikh Mubarak Ali Yousef Al-Sabah, Director-General of the Kuwaiti Coast Guard, welcomed Chinese Deputy Minister of Transport Fu Xiuyin and his delegation. The Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait, Mr. Zhang Jianwei, along with senior officials from Kuwait’s General Administration of Coast Guard, also attended the event.

A key highlight of the visit was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates. This initiative not only underscores the commitment to professional standards but also facilitates smoother cooperation and mobility within the maritime workforce of both countries.

The meeting also served as a platform for in-depth discussions on strengthening maritime security, enhancing navigational safety, and exploring innovative ways to boost port operations. Both sides expressed strong intent to develop joint operational frameworks and reinforce their strategic maritime partnership.

This collaboration marks a forward-looking chapter in Kuwait-China relations, promising growth, security, and shared prosperity in the maritime domain.
