Kuwait Food Authority-The General Authority for Food and Nutrition announced on Sunday the completion of accreditation procedures for companies and investors assigned to manage and operate school cafeterias during the 2025–2026 academic year.

According to the Authority’s spokesperson, Dr. Shaima Al-Asfour, a total of 36 companies applied for approval, of which only 20 met the conditions outlined in the executive regulations for school cafeterias, issued under Ministerial Resolution No. (15) of 2025.

Dr. Al-Asfour explained that the updated cafeteria regulations mark a pioneering initiative designed to promote student health and foster positive nutritional habits across society. The project aims to improve the quality and variety of food offered in schools, while ensuring compliance with strict health standards.

As part of the new guidelines, a range of products harmful to student health are prohibited. These include soft drinks, energy drinks, caffeinated beverages, foods high in sugar, saturated and trans fats, fast food, canned noodles, processed meats, artificial colors, and high-calorie sauces.

This academic year will also witness the introduction of a new pilot program allowing investors to operate school cafeterias under the direct supervision of the Authority. Investors, whether individuals or organizations, will be responsible for supplying approved food items while ensuring full compliance with health and nutrition requirements.

The Authority emphasized that investors will bear complete responsibility for adhering to these standards, noting that this initiative aligns with national efforts to combat childhood obesity, reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases, and advance the objectives of both the Sustainable Development Goals and Kuwait Vision 2035.
