Kuwait bid farewell today, Thursday, to Dr. Imad Al-Ateeqi, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil, following a long and distinguished career in academia, research, and public service.
Throughout his journey, Dr. Al-Ateeqi held several prominent positions, leaving behind an impactful legacy:
- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil (2024)
- President of the American University of the Middle East in Kuwait (2011–2018)
- Founding Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of the Council of Private Universities (2003–2010)
- Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University (1998–2000)
- Director of the Research Department at Kuwait University (1991–1994)
- Member of the Supreme Petroleum Council in Kuwait (1990–2013), where he chaired the Strategies Committee and served on various technical committees
- Director of the Petroleum, Petrochemicals, and Materials Department at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (1988–1990)
Dr. Al-Ateeqi earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Alexandria University in 1978, followed by a Master’s and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University, Pennsylvania, USA in 1985.
As a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Kuwait University, he made significant academic contributions. His research portfolio exceeded 80 studies and publications across engineering, petroleum refining simulation and control, petrochemicals, refining economics, and related chemical processes, all published in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and specialized books.
Known for his vision and dedication, Dr. Al-Ateeqi’s efforts advanced Kuwait’s educational and energy sectors, earning him deep respect both locally and internationally.
