Kuwait City:As part of the ongoing efforts of the Criminal Security Sector, represented by the General Department of Criminal Investigations – Cybercrime Combating Department, to track down and apprehend cyber fraud perpetrators, authorities have arrested two individuals involved in a large-scale SMS scam.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the department received reports that a local phone number was being used to send fraudulent text messages impersonating several well-known companies in Kuwait. Following detailed investigations, it was discovered that one of the suspects had collected a list of phone numbers and shared them with his associate.

The second suspect was arrested and found in possession of multiple mobile phones. During interrogation, he confessed to collaborating with a person abroad who transferred money to him in exchange for using local SIM cards to operate an application that sends fake messages in the name of reputed companies, with the goal of committing financial fraud.

The Ministry confirmed that both suspects have been referred to the competent authorities for legal action and will be deported from the country for the public good.

The General Department of Criminal Investigations reaffirmed its commitment to combating cybercrimes and protecting the public from digital fraud. The Ministry also warned citizens and residents against responding to anonymous messages or suspicious links, particularly those requesting banking or personal information.

Authorities urged everyone to verify information only through official sources and to immediately report any fraudulent activity through the Ministry’s official channels or by calling the emergency hotline 112.
