Expatriate Teachers Set for Exit Amid Kuwaitization Drive

Kuwait City – May 29: The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has announced a temporary suspension on the appointment of new expatriate teachers in the Ministry of Education, coinciding with the close of the current academic year.

According to an official statement from the Civil Service Bureau, the suspension will remain in effect until the Civil Service Board approves the upcoming employment plan and nominates qualified Kuwaiti candidates registered in the central employment system to fill teaching positions based on the ministry’s specialization needs.tay updated on Kuwait’s latest news and job openings by following our WhatsApp channel!https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaCkXo25q08jnKrRwo27

📌 End of Service for 60 Long-Serving Expatriates

In a related move, the Ministry of Education is preparing to terminate the services of 60 expatriate employees, including both teachers and administrative staff, who have reached the maximum legal length of service.

Sources told Al-Rai that the ministry’s administrative department has completed a detailed review of expatriate employees who have served for more than 34 years in various educational districts and departments, including the Ministry’s general office.

The list includes:

  • 55 teachers across elementary, intermediate, and secondary levels in various specializations
  • 5 administrators who have completed their statutory service period

🗓️ Timeline for Termination:

  • Teachers: Services to end at the conclusion of the 2024–2025 academic year
  • Administrators: Services to end by December 2025

🎯 Part of the Government’s Kuwaitization Strategy

The decision is in line with Kuwait’s long-standing “replacement” or Kuwaitization policy, which aims to reduce reliance on expatriate labor and create more job opportunities for Kuwaiti nationals—especially in fields where local expertise is now sufficient.

The Ministry emphasized that recruitment will resume once the new employment plan is approved and will prioritize Kuwaiti job seekers to fill any remaining gaps in the educational workforce.
