world’s highest bridge
China has officially opened the world’s highest bridge to traffic, marking another milestone in the country’s rapid infrastructure development. The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, located in Southwest China’s Guizhou province, now stands as the tallest bridge in the world.
Record-Breaking Features of the Huajiang Bridge
- The bridge spans the Huajiang section of the Beipan River.
- Its deck rises 625 meters above the river, making it the highest bridge in the world.
- The main span stretches 1,420 meters, setting a record for the longest span bridge in mountainous terrain.
Travel Time Cut from Hours to Minutes
The new bridge is a critical part of Guizhou’s expressway network, slashing travel time across the canyon from nearly two hours to just two minutes. With the bridge’s opening, the expressway connecting Liuzhi special district and Anlong county is now fully operational.
Infrastructure Growth in Guizhou
Construction of the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge began in 2022. Guizhou’s mountainous landscape has long required advanced bridge engineering to enhance transportation. The province has already built or is building more than 32,000 bridges, securing nearly half of the positions on the world’s top 100 tallest bridges list.
A Symbol of China’s Infrastructure Development
The opening of the world’s highest bridge in China highlights the nation’s commitment to advancing rural connectivity and boosting regional economies through modern transportation networks.
